This slim lady was purchased directly from Zadkine in the late 1930s by the Dutchman Jonas van Straaten. Van Straaten worked at the department store 'De Bijenkorf' in Amsterdam and was a collector of Zadkine's work. In addition to this beautiful wooden sculpture, he purchased several other bronze sculptures from Zadkine, including the statue 'Oiseau' (Bird) from 1929. Both statues were recovered by the Zadkine Research Center from the descendants of Jonas van Straaten in the United States. Van Straaten had a very good eye for quality, all the works by Zadkine and other artists that he collected are all of very high quality.
