About Zadkine's sculpture Torse de femme
The stone sculpture titled Torse de femme was purchased directly from Zadkine by Hendrik Wiegersma in 1926. This sculpture is a good example of Zadkine's skill as a stonemason. The human but at the same time abstract shape of the body is something that Zadkine would repeat many times in his work. The simplicity and perfect finish of this work also gives it strength and tranquility, In Ossip Zadkine's own words: 'I remain a craftsman, a worker who ensures excellence in execution, apart from the idea and the originality'.
